The Hawaiian Inter-Club Council of Southern California (HICCSC) is the umbrella organization connecting Hawaiian and Pacific Islander clubs throughout Southern California. Since the 1970s, HICCSC has brought together civic clubs, hālau hula, social organizations, health and wellness groups, and community leaders to uplift our lāhui here on the continent.
HICCSC represents member organizations across the region, including recognized Hawaiian Civic Clubs affiliated with Nā Lei Makalapua, the Mainland Council of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs. Membership is held at the organizational level, strengthening collective alignment and shared purpose.
At our core, HICCSC exists to preserve and sustain Hawaiian cultural identity—socially, spiritually, and civically—while strengthening community for our people living away from Hawaiʻi.
Grounded in ʻike kupuna, HICCSC exists to preserve and perpetuate Hawaiian culture by nurturing ʻike, honoring our protocols, and creating spaces where our people gather in belonging.
We strengthen community through connection, service, and leadership—supporting our member organizations as they perpetuate culture, advocate for the well-being of our lāhui, and keep Hawaiʻi close in heart and practice for those living away from home.

HICCSC is guided by the values of our kūpuna. Through these values, we continue to create space for our people, support our clubs, and prepare the next generation of leaders on the continent.

Love, compassion, and respect in all we do.

Many hands working together; we succeed as a collective.

Caring for our culture, our people, and our future.

Shared responsibility to uplift the lāhui.

Integrity and honor in our actions and decisions
The Hawaiian Civic Club movement began with Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole, who founded civic clubs to prepare kānaka ʻŌiwi to engage in governance and decision-making while remaining grounded in Hawaiian values and identity.
HICCSC continues that legacy on the continent by:
As the ʻŌlelo Noʻeau reminds us:
“ʻAʻohe ʻulu e loaʻa i ka pōkole o ka lua.”
There is no success without preparation

Prince Kūhiō’s vision lives through organized leadership, shared kuleana, and collective action.
Whether your organization is long-connected to HICCSC or newly discovering our work, we invite you to stand with us in preserving culture and strengthening our lāhui on the continent.
Membership is held at the organizational level and open to qualifying Hawaiian and Pacific Islander-serving nonprofits across California.
